Originally, this was the cover image for Issue 5 of this year’s volume of The Collegian. My manager had asked me to create square versions of some of the previous Collegian covers and this was one of the covers they asked for. When I designed the original cover, I was given the theme of “Taking a Deep Dive.” I have a love for hammerhead sharks and took this as an opportunity to draw them. I started out with a simple sketch and flat layers of color. I then wanted to make the sharks look like they were circling each other on the ocean floor. I made it look like there was a spot of sunlight on them as if there were in some sort of underwater cove. I added white line art to make it also appear as highlight from the sun. I added a blue ring to add to the glowing affect. To add the text, I transferred the colored version and the sketched version into Adobe Illustrator so that I could create the text. I outlined the sketched title and then selected the shapes and shifted them over to the finished side. Afterwards, when I was asked for a square version, I removed the text and squared out the colored illustration. I then set up an assisted drawing guide to help keep my lines straight while I wrote out “The Collegian.” After I was finished with the sticker, I sent it over to my manager.
